1) Because some feel that it is not truly Disney if they don't buy from Disney
2) From past experiences some of the folks involved in time shares sales can be are little difficult to deal with and therefore those in resales are as well
3) Because they don't believe that this is a legitimate offer. It is “too good to be true”
4) Not aware of the existence of resales.

Will the number of points for each accommodations continue to rise each year?
No, actually they will only fluctuate. Because DVC is an ownership, the points will only fluctuate, the total number of points will not increase. For example, if you were to look at the point chart for OKW for 1999 and totaled all of the points on that chart, then did the same for 2000, the two numbers would be exactly the same. This will continue to be true for 2001, 2002, etc as well as for each of the other resorts. The only thing that will change is variations for each. If the studio increases in points for Adventure season by 2 for Fri/Sat nights then it may decrease by 2 for Fri/Sat nights in Dream season, etc. So, your overall vacation value will not decrease.
What will change from year to year however are the maintenance dues. These are different for each resort.

What are some pitfalls or any mistakes to avoid, or anything bad about owning DVC?
There really isn’t anything " bad" about owner. Perhaps the only down-side we have seen is the availability of accommodations. Our track record for getting exactly what we wanted when we called for reservations is about 50%. In another ~15% or so we were on a waiting list and ended up with our second choices.

What do you think the single best part of being a DVC member is?
Now this is a very difficult question to answer. There are so many reasons why it is GREAT being a DVC member that we couldn’t possible list them all here. They do, by far, out way the bad items. Perhaps the best part of the DVC member is the fact that you are part of Disney. The quality, service, and value of DVC made it a great purchase for us. If you love Disney as much as we do then you’ll love being a DVC member. Much like some of the folks that you see on the DVC videos saying that they bought sight unseen, this is much like us. We had taken a tour of DVC in December of 1994, loved the concept but and buried the material with the realization that we were not able to afford at that time. With the honeymoon approaching in October 1997 it became more feasible to become DVC members. What we arrived in our one bedroom "honeymoon suite" we were in awe. Until that point time we were very happy with our DVC purchase. However, at that moment we knew we had made the right decision.
Being a DVC member is being part of Disney that allows you to stay at Disney World for a fairly reasonable cost. Here again we can use a mathematical formula for figuring out the affordability of DVC. This again is what I did what we figured out whether DVC was for us are not. It also allowed us to figure whether or not DVC was actually a "bargain" or not. We figured that each year, DVC costs us about $4.41/point. You can arrive at this number by dividing the total cost of points the number of years of ownership and then divide that by the number of your 210 points. Add this to the yearly maintenance dues and you have that years cost per point for DVC.
Referring to the point chart for Old Key West for 1999 you can “equate” how much the studio is worth. The studio at adventure season is 12 points per night for Sunday through Thursday and 22 points for Friday and Saturday. Multiply this by our number of $4.41 and the cost for the studio during adventure season is $53 for Sunday through Thursday and $97 dollars for Friday and Saturday nights. Compare this to the cost of a room at All-Star Resorts. The cost for room there could be anywhere from $79 to $99 per a night. Compare this to the luxury of either Old Key West or Boardwalk resorts. In addition to the luxury that you get from stay at these to resorts don't forget you also get the wet bar with refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker.

What is the Magical Beginnings and how does it work when I purchase DVC?
The Magical Beginnings is a program whereby you can apply the cost of your stay during which you purchased your DVC ownership toward the total purchase price up to $$$. In other words, if, while staying at a Disney resort and you take the DVC tour and then purchase, the cost of your lodging during that stay can be applied to the cost of DVC. The down side, however, is that the number of points that would equal a studio (I believe) ????? is taken right off the top of your purchase of points. Now, I don't know about you but a room even at the Poly doesn't equal a studio at OKW or even BW!!! So consider this defore deciding!

What are some advantages of owning at one resort over owning at another?
Advantages to one resort over the other include, cost: maintenance dues at BW and VB are a little higher than the others. For those who enjoy and plan to spend the majority of their time at WDW not at take advantage of the other resorts or to trade out then OKW or BW are the choice (and soon to be Wilderness Lodge). With these resorts, reservations can be made 11 months before the departure date of the trip. Although most people don’t think about making vacation reservations that far in advance, at certain times of the year in oder to ensure that you get what you want, it may be wise.

Are there any DVC Member discounts?
Discounts for DVC members are limited. You would think that paying all of this money would entitle you to significant discounts perhaps not in amount but in number. You can check the DVC members only page www.dvcmember.com for specific discounts. However, the MKC seems to give more discounts. You can use either at the Disney stores in the malls for a 10% discounts. But you cannot use the DVC card for a discount at Downtown Disney, even at World of Disney! And MKC will get you discounts on annual passes, DVC won;t!

How does DVC handle the onslaught of people who want to book prime holidays?
They follow the 11/7 month guideline where those with home resort advantage have a 4 month window to book at that resort. Other than that, it is basically first come, first served.
