In late January 1999, we decided to add additional points onto our original package of 210 points.

Our financial situation at the time allowed us a little extra money to spend. Also, we had received the notice from DVC that the points price was increasing in February 1999. As an incentive to purchasing extra points, if purchased before the price increase, DVC would purchase back the newly purchased points for $10 per point.

we decided to purchase an additional 50 points. this would increase our baseline points to 260 and well as giving us $500 back! the whole process was quite easy. after making the commitment, we were sent a large binder full of papers to sign. it took us about 45 minutes to complete and have certain pages notarized. we sent it off in the FedEx envelope that was provided and approximately three weeks later we received our recorded deed. we had decided to finance directly through DVC this time around.

we were in the process of planning and booking an OKW trip for the upcoming April and this helped us out immensely! we had just enough points banked to be able to stay in a 1-bedroom vacation home for just a week (Sunday to Saturday). We wanted to extend our vacation and this offer allowed us the opportunity.

we extended the vacation by a day by booking the 1bedroom home as a cash night (somehow we got a deal for $260 for the night). if we had used points for that night it would have "cost" 73 points. we would have had to borrow from the upcoming year.  much more than we had. by booking as a cash night, the $500 bonus paid for room and we still had money left over. we used that money to buy Disney dollars.

the moral of our story is that not only have we have been so happy with our DVC purchase that we bought additional points but that our resale purchase went so well and or fear that we would be treated like "second class citizens" because we bought "second hand" points was completely unfounded. never once have we felt this way.

the other reason (beside the $500 bonus) that we purchased directly from DVC is the ease with which we can add points onto our contract.  directly through DVC, the points were virtually "tacked" onto the original seamlessly. all of our points have the same use year as well as the same contract number. If we had purchased from resale, we would have had to pay the $400 fee. in addition, those points would not have the same use year or contract and we would have had much more hassle transferring points and trying to keep each set of points straight!

if we were ever to purchase a larger package of points, we would contact the Timeshare Store!
