April 1999- Old Key West
Summary
Well, another DVC trip over. Lets start planning the next. Overall it was a great trip. It started out horrific but we got all of the bad stuff out of the way, right away! It only got better from there. The weather was perfect, we couldnt have asked for better. The parks were crowded but we managed to get around that. OKW was as incredible as ever. It is a resort that just embraces the feeling of relaxation. Just the colors and soft pastels that cover the buildings make it restful. Not only that, being somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of Disney also makes it conducive to relaxation. It just seems set back from the road and from everything else going on around the "World". BoardWalk absolutely has its own flavor and characteristic and being so close to MGM and within walking distance to Epcot, and of course right on the BoardWalk, make you more likely to keep moving. It is a wonderful resort but OKW seems more right if you want to just take it chill out.
This trip had reassured us again that we had made the right decision in purchasing. People like the Cast Member that sent us the Champagne basket really make DVC special. Being greeted with "Welcome Home" by the security guard each time we enter the property is unequaled anywhere else on property. Seeing the new building going up where Commodore House had been shows that DVC is here to stay and is very much viable.
We are thinking we might return to OKW in October to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary but the "Millennium" celebration begins on October 1 and we are sure it will be crowded. We would love to try the cruise and may look into using our points for both this as well a combined with a short stay at Vero Beach. Were also sure that those folks with passes with their points will be trying to get one last usage out of them and OKW will be booked up. Oh well, we will have to see.
