Day 8

Saturday October 8, 2005

Another slow starting morning. After getting our sorry butts going, we drove to the MK parking. There were considerably more people today as it was the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. We took it slow as there was going to be more walking for Karen. We opted for the resort Monorail as the Express to the MK had a waiting line at the bottom of the ramp. Once off the Monorail we waited in the security line for at least 15 minutes. Once through, it took us another 15 to get through the turnstiles (can you see a pattern emerging?). Since there weren't any ECVs to available we rented a wheelchair instead. It certainly wasn't as much fun for either Karen. We stopped in the camera shop to cool off. Main Street was a total zoo with tons and tons of people going in all directions.

We had our picture taken in front of the newly decorated castle. In the bright sun, it looked better than the last time I saw it. Since it was such a beautiful day with bright blue skies and white puffy clouds, we stopped for a bunch of photos. We stopped into the Christmas Shop in Liberty Square and then had our traditional ice cream cookie sandwich. We picked a good time since it rained while we were eating. We tried to get to see Stitch's Great Escape but the line was out of control. Instead we checked out some of the merchandise shops on Main Street and picked up our photos from the Main Street photo shop. We returned the wheelchair- still no ECVs. We caught the ferry back to the TTC and the tram to the car. We were hoping the OKW concierge could help us with an ECV. He called over to Epcot for us only to be told they had a waiting list. Instead he offered us an OKW wheelchair to use. We lunched (late) at Olivia's and then wandered around Turtle Crawl and checked out the new sandcastle water slide. We returned to our vacation home only to discover a large snake lurking in the foliage. Karen ran the other way quickly while I tried to chase it away.

We washed up and relaxed for a bit before heading out to Downtown. We tried to park somewhere near the MarketPlace but we quickly realized it was hopeless. We made our way over to the West Side and ended up having to park all the way at the end of Cirque. The wheelchair given to us by OKW came in handy as Karen had pooped herself out during the day. We sauntered all the way from one end of Downtown to the other stopping in some of the stores. We tried to get a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich but the line was outrageous. We ended up getting a pretzel and Wurtzel Dog at Wurtzel's Pretzel's. Ahh.... The dinner of champions. Our friend JR (referred to early on Day 3) and his wife were going to the movies at AMC so we got to visit with them. Back at the car we loaded up the wheelchair and made our way back to our vacation home. Suitcases came out and the packing began- a sure sign that vacation was ending. As our flight was mid-morning tomorrow and we wanted to drop our luggage off at Airline check-in at Front Desk, we would have to be packed and ready to leave by 7am. After washing a few last things, we loaded the suitcases and hit the hay!
