Hilton Head Island Resort

General Resort Information

Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort is located on the coast-line of South Carolina about 360 miles North and East of the Walt Disney World Resort and just a few miles North and East of Savannah, Georgia. It is located east of I-95 off the southern coast of South Carolina.

The beautiful low country of Hilton Head Island and the magic of Disney combined in 1996 to create a Disney Vacation Club Resort fashioned after a 1940s hunting and fishing lodge, are 102 villas, a swimming pool, a small exercise room, a main lodge and 1.5 miles away, a beach house and pool. The resort occupies 15 acres adjacent to the Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina.

The resort is fashioned after a 1940s hunting and fishing lodge and is themed very much like a cross between Wilderness Lodge and Dixie Landings but with classic Carolina island-style architecture. It has a Southern, rustic, feel nestled among many live hundred year old oaks and secluded in Shelter Cove Harbour.

The resort is actually two parts. The Main resorts houses Live Oak Lodge- the main building and check-in area, as well as the Vacation Homes, main pool (Big Dipper), and Broad Creek Mercantile (general store). This part of the resorts is bordered on one side by Shelter Harbour and on the other by the Broad Creek Marshes. The other part of the resort is approximately 1.5 miles and is on the Atlantic Ocean- the Beach House.

The Hilton Head Island Resort has a mascot. The "story" is of Shadow, the resort's golden retriever pet that lives onsite. Shadow was a stray that was adopted by the Cast Members around the time of the resorts opening. There are several dog houses on the property and paw prints in the sidewalks that were the result of Shadow's antics during construction. Additionally, in many of the tiles, there in the vacation homes, there are paw prints.
