Old Key West Resort

Old Key West was the first DVC resort to be completed (late 1991). When it first opened it was called "Disney Vacation Club". When the other resorts where built, the name was changed to reflect the ever-expanding world of DVC. Considered by some to be the "main" DVC resort it, like the other resorts, has many unique and charming characteristics.

The theme at OKW is reminiscent of Key West, Florida with pastel colors and hues. The architecture is fashioned after those found throughout Key West, Florida. Even the lamp posts are exact replicas found in Key West.

The resort is a moderate sized complex, with about 497 rooms or "vacation homes". It is about one third of the size of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort or Disney's Dixie Landings Resort and is located in the newly termed "Downtown Disney" resort area.

Old Key West is a unique resort on the Disney property. Because it is owned by the Vacation Club, there is a feeling of "Coming Home". This is first demonstrated when approaching the security booth. Something that doesn't happen at the other resorts.

After entering the property, the first building that comes into view on the left is the Hospitality House. This is the main building for the resort and all of the resort "business" takes place here. Hospitality House is the place to go for check-in or to catch the buses to other parts of the "World". Papa's Den, a quiet library for guests to relax in, is also located here. In addition to the overstuffed comfortable chairs, there is a TV that continuously shows animated Disney movies.

Across the breezeway from the Hospitality House is the Conch Flats General Store. This is the resort's general store offering such items as milk, bread, soda, beer, wine as well as other various foodstuffs. In addition to these items, Disney souvenirs and DVC logo merchandise are available as well.

Presently, OKW is sold out! For the time being, no more purchases to be made here. The Commodore House which previously housed the sales offices for DVC has been torn down. There are two new large buildings that will house additional vacation homes in the process of being constructed. If you are considering a DVC purchase and would like a tour of the property, you must go to the Boardwalk at the "Crest of the Wave" to meet with the DVC Vacation advisors.

Old Key West is a unique DVC resort with a completely different feel than any of the other DVC resorts as well as the other Disney resorts.
